Legends

This lively being wanders far and wide, and there are legends of him in many lands. Not much about his origins is known. It is reputed that he was banished from an elemental plane for some unforgivable sin among his kind, and that only some great deed will free him from exile. Details about his home plane, the sin, and the deed vary greatly with the telling.

What is known is that he is a capricious being of great knowledge which he shares very rarely and selectively. He seems to have a high regard for intelligence, and a passion for riddles. He often demands a tribute of a creature to eat. For though he can create a suculent feast seemingly out of thin air, it is rumored that he cannot himself partake of that which he creates. Some tales say that those who eat at his table three times become gainfully enchanted. Other tales say that the diner becomes accursed or enslaved. The truth is difficult to discern.

Sometimes, for reasons unknown, the Mad Djin acquires an affinity for a particular traveller, appearing to him several times before moving on. It is said that he is looking for something specific in these individuals, but what it is, who can say?
